More than a century ago, a group of Norwegian-Americans, led by Dr. Niles Quales, were inspired by a dream to provide a safe and secure haven for their elderly men and women. They formed the Norwegian Old Peoples Home Society (now known as Norwood Life Care Foundation), and through their philanthropic efforts a legacy of caring was realized. On May 18, 1896, with the purchase of the Norwood Park Hotel, a three-story frame building with 30 large rooms, situated on four acres of land, their dream became a reality. On that day they founded what we today know as Norwood Crossing. The purchase price was $20,000.
The vision and generosity of our founders, and those who followed made a lasting legacy - a legacy of caring for future generations of elderly men and women. We think they would be proud of the way their vision has evolved and of the many lives Norwood Life Care Foundation and its affiliates, Norwood Crossing and Norwood Seniors Network have touched in so many different ways.
