Dr. Larsandrew Dolan Award - 2006
Marge's introduction to Norwood Crossing came by way of the Normennenes Singing Society that had been invited to sing for the St. Han's Day Fest, a Norwegian tradition to celebrate the summer solstice. Her late husband, Sig, a member of Normennenes, brought Marge to share in the celebration and the rest is history.
Her contribution to Norwood Crossing has been outstanding. She served on the Board of Directors from 1964 to 1981. For 16 of those years she headed the Social Welfare Committee, planning events and outings for the residents. In face, even before she joined the Board, she and Sig showed movies once a week for the residents. They did this for 15 years!
At its inception, Marge joined the Women's Service League and was instrumental in establishing the NPH Gift Shop. She also volunteered in the Beauty Shop that was just staring up. She says, 'We loved making residents beautiful!'
No special event is complete without Marge. During the late 1960's she received a call from the Norwegian Consul General Finn Koren. He announced that he was coming to Norwood Crossing with a visiting dignitary for Syttende Mai (Norwegian Independence Day). Marge replied that was fine but we had no formal program to commemorate the event. Well, as you can guess, in short order Marge put an event together and it has been a tradition ever since. Similarly, when the Consul General wanted to visit NPH for Lille Jul Aften (Little Christmas Eve), Marge went into action recruiting the Normennenes Singing Society to perform, arranging for the julekake and other treat. So began another tradition that continues to this day.
Quietly working behind the scenes to get things accomplished is Marge's forte. She has helped maintain our proud Norwegian heritage while supporting the mission of our not-for-profit and she can always be counted on for her delicious homemade krumkake.
Tonight, we proudly acknowledge her dedicated service to Norwood Park Home and in appreciation, present her with the 2006 Dr. Larsandrew Dolan Award. Congratulations, Marge!
