Walter (Bud) and Jacquelyn Dick
Dr. Larsandrew Dolan Award - 2003

In 1949 Jackie’s grandmother, Marie Johnson became a resident and so began a life-long family commitment to the mission of Norwood Crossing. Jackie’s father, Leonard Johnson served on the Board of Directors and in 1974, Bud was elected to the Board serving for twenty years, three years as President.

Always there by his side was Jackie supporting the work of Norwood Crossing in countless ways. In 1980, Jackie made it official and joined the Women’s Service League serving as President for five years. During that time the thrift shop, across Nina Avenue from Norwood Crossing was opened giving the Service League an opportunity to raise even more funds. Jackie said, “The Board always had a wish list from new front entry doors to new dining room furniture but my greatest satisfaction was working with the residents through the many activities of the Service League.” In 1996, Bud was appointed an Emeritus Member of the Board of Directors in recognition of his devoted service.

Bud and Jackie met at Arlington Heights Township High School. Following his discharge from the Marine Corps after World War II, Bud began courting Jackie. They were married in 1948 but war separated them again in 1950 when Bud was called for active duty during the Korean conflict. On his return, Bud joined the firm of Warner Woven Label Co. of New York and quickly rose through the ranks to Vice President of National Sales. In 1987, he resigned to establish W & W Associates, Inc. and served as president and CEO until his retirement in 1994.
