Dr. Larsandrew Dolan Award - 2002
Marian spent most of her life in the Edison Park neighborhood. Her introduction to Norwood Crossing came about in the 1950’s through her position as manager of the Norwood Corset Shop. The shop was situated across the tracks from Norwood Crossing on Northwest Highway where today Park National Bank is located. Marian would often personally assist the nurses who shopped for some of the residents, as well as the residents themselves, to find the right garment to meet their needs―and so began her involvement with Norwood Crossing.
For more then 40 years, Marian was a member of the Norwood Crossing Women’s Service League, chairing many of the special events that have a strong tradition thanks to the dedication and hard work of Marian and other members of the League. Volunteer extraordinaire, Marian dedicated numerous hours weekly to Norwood Crossing and Service League projects. For 23 years she also served as a member and officer of the Board of Directors and was appointed to the Emeritus Board. When asked what inspired her to give so much of herself, Marian responded in the succinct modest way she had, “it’s for the residents.”
We are so very glad that Marian came over to our side of the tracks! Her contribution was immeasurable and her legacy is fondly remembered.
